The 3,000 sq.ft. eponymous flagship store is comprised of two retail zones that are distinct in character and appearance. The two zones are situated in between double height volumes at the entry and the staircase. Marking the entrance is a monumental metal screen door with a strong geometric pattern, inspired by Navajo rug weaving. Three display volumes protrude through the existing window opening at the facade, invading the public territory of the sidewalk. The interior timber pavilion is treated as an insertion on the ground floor which defines the retail space where small leather goods and handbags are displayed.
The transition space leading to the second level is characterized by a simple concrete block wall and a bronze ornamental screen that wraps along the staircase. The gritty precast concrete panels that encase the second level creates a stark contrast with the delicate and vivid colors of the ready-to-wear collection. This juxtaposition effectively captures the essence of the Proenza Schouler design aesthetic.
